GRANT-PROJECT: 19002:

Development and application of new technological procedures of polymetallic ore processing in order to obtain tungsten, bismuth and silver (2006-2010)

INVESTOR: Ministry of Science and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia.

REALIZATION: 1) Institute for technology of nuclear and other mineral raw materials, ITNMS; 2) Institute for Mining and Metallurgy, IRM; 3) Technical faculty in Bor of the University of Belgrade, TF.

PROJECT MANAGER: Dr. SLOBODAN RADOSAVLJEVIĆ, principal research fellow.

PROJECT AIM:

The main project aim is winning new technological solutions of enrichment of the basic scheelite concentrate (contents: WО3 7 – 26 %), the collective sulfide concentrate containing lead, bismuth and silver (Pb 8 %; Ag 0.2 %; Bi 8 %), and higher functional materials (components, alloys, composites) which can be obtained from domestic resources (orefields of Rudnik, Boranja, etc.). The research has been directed on obtaining three new products: WО3, tungsten powder, and synthetic scheelite concentrate. Furthermore, the high contents of silver (over 300 g/t) in such concentrates will be subject of future research and potential conversion into functional material component.

Implementation of the new technology and conversion of the basic sulfide concentrate (using mineral processing operation and hydrometallurgy) in state of direct functional application of materials based on lead, bismuth and silver is planned by the project.

New functional materials represent strategically important products in the Republic of Serbia. In addition, such materials are also very important in both surrounding countries and the EU.
