Project number:  TR 31003

Title of project:

Development of technologies and products based on mineral raw materials and waste biomass for protection of natural resources for safe food production

Funds:                         Ministry of Eduucation and Science of the Republic of Serbia

Principal ivestigator:  Ph.D  Mirjana Stojanovic

Duration:                     2011 – 2014

The proposed project investigates the possibility of using selected alumosilicate minerals (zeolite, apatite, bentonite, sepiolite), waste biomass (aquatic weed Myriophyllum spicatum) and fruit factory waste materials (fruit pits) for obtaining new products and materials. The realization of the proposed multidisciplinary project will be through 5 themes: - Development of phytoremediation technology- plant phytoaccumulator, designed for soil recultivation - Development of effective, low cost and eco-friendly biosorbents based on waste biomass for removal of heavy metals from wastewater -Development and implementation of fertilizers based on domestic phosphates, modified zeolites and waste biomass, as donors of microelements - Prevention with alumosilicate materials of pathophysiological disorders of animals that suffer heat stress due to climate change -Investigation of radionuclide content in phosphate mineral fertilizers and poultry feed additives with the aim of animal protection from radioactive contamination. The developed products will be directed toward the uptake of pollutants present in the soil, water and animal feed additives in order to prevent the negative impact which pollutants exert on plant and animals physiological process. Application of the obtained products will enable safe food production. Furthermore, products based on low-cost domestic row materials will stimulate domestic production, reduce the need for imports and engage young scientists.
